FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) – McMurray Metis is gifting two outdoor classrooms to the Catholic and public school divisions in Fort McMurray. The new classrooms include all weather tents, podiums, benches and heaters.

The outdoor classrooms have 3 main goals, including:

-Provide students with another educational environment during COVID-19 restrictions.
-Allow students to get outdoors.
-Broker a new relationship as a sign of cooperation between schools and the Indigenous communities.

Two handover ceremones were held this week at Father Beauregard School and Dr. A Clark Elementary school with a blessing from elders, speeches from division chairs as well as students and McMurray Metis.

“We are so grateful for our continued partnership with Metis local 1935. The work they do continues to be a valuable resource for our schools,” Kelly Meyers, vice president of McMurray Metis said.
