Active COVID cases see steady decline heading into Thanksgiving weekend

CALGARY — Alberta reported 1,256 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

The new case numbers come after nearly 15,000 tests were completed for a positivity rate of around 8.5 per cent.

As of Friday evening, there are now 17,389 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta — a 1,002 case decrease from the day prior.

The province also reporting 16 more people have died from COVID-19.

The new deaths reported on Friday range from a pair of Albertans in their 50s, to a man in his 90s from the Edmonton Zone.

To date, 2,830 Albertans have died from COVID.

As for hospitalizations, there are now 1,101 people in hospital with COVID-19, 250 of which are in the ICU.

Nearly 6.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to date in Alberta.

Of the eligible population, 84.9 per cent have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 75.5 per cent are fully immunized.
