Officer-involved shooting at Fort McMurray International Airport

FORT MCMURRAY (660 NEWS) – The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting at the Fort McMurray International Airport.

According to a press release, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a call about an erratic man at the airport with an edged weapon at approximately 5:35 a.m. Friday morning.

“Upon police arrival, an interaction occurred resulting in a police officer discharging their service firearm,” reads the release.

EMS responded and transported the man to hospital. His condition was not specified.

ASIRT will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident to get a full account of what took place.

“The RCMP believes in processes that seek the facts, and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved, including the police, are fair, transparent and defendable,” the release states.

No further details have been released at this time.
