Active COVID infections, hospitalizations continue trend in right direction ahead of weekend

Heading into the weekend, Alberta is reporting 656 new cases of COVID-19.

The new case numbers come after nearly 11,000 tests were completed for a positivity rate of around 6.1 per cent.

New case numbers showed positive signs this week as Alberta reported 786 cases at the peak. This compares to the two weeks prior where the peak was in the low 1000s.

Active infections also continue to decline, as there are now 10,037 active cases in Alberta, a drop of 397 cases from Thursday.

If this trend continues, Alberta should dip below 10,000 active cases for the first time since Aug. 27.

As for severe outcomes of COVID-19, the province is reporting 12 more people have died from the virus.

There are now 889 people in hospital, 191 of which are in the ICU.

On the vaccination front, the province has now administered more than 6.42 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Of those 12 and older in Alberta, 86.4 per cent have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 78.3 per cent are fully immunized.
