Alberta hits vaccine milestone as active COVID infections drop through Halloween weekend

Alberta has hit a milestone in its fight against COVID-19.

As of Monday afternoon, more than 80 per cent of the eligible population in the province are now fully immunized against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 87.1 per cent of those 12 and older in Alberta have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

To date, more than 6.55 million doses have been administered in Alberta.

As for cases of the virus, the province reported another day of declining numbers on Monday.

Over the last three days, there have been 1,210 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Alberta.

The case breakdown for the weekend is as follows:

  • 533 new cases identified on Friday
  • 335 new cases identified on Saturday
  • 342 new cases identified on Sunday

 

The new case numbers come after more than 24,000 tests were completed over the three-day period; giving Alberta a positivity rate of around 4.9 per cent for the weekend.

Active infections in the province also continue to drop. There are now 7,580 active cases in Alberta.

That is a near 600 case decrease since Friday.
