Active COVID infections in Alberta see significant drop

Active infections of COVID-19 continue to drop in Alberta.

Since Monday, the province saw an 11 per cent decrease in active cases, dropping 669 cases to 6,911. This is the lowest active case count in Alberta since Aug. 21.

The drop in active infections come as Alberta reports 315 new cases of the virus.

The new case numbers come after more than 7,500 tests were completed for a positivity rate of around 4.2 per cent.

As cases continue to decline, hospitalization numbers saw a slight increase for the first time in several days.

Hospitalizations rose by two, for a total of 691 people in hospital, 159 of which are now in the ICU.

Alberta Health reporting on Tuesday eight more people have died with COVID-19.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 6.55 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta.

Of those 12 and older in the province, 87.1 per cent have received at least one dose, while 80.3 per cent are fully immunized.
