Alberta COVID infections continue downswing, 14 more deaths reported

Alberta reported 487 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon.

The new case numbers come after more than 10,000 tests were completed for a positivity rate of around 4.8 per cent.

In total, there are now 6,693 active infections in Alberta, a decrease of 218 cases from the day prior.

The downhill trend doesn’t stop with active cases and daily infections reported.

Over the last month, hospitalizations have dropped 35 per cent, while ICU admissions have dipped by 40 per cent.

While the downswing is a positive for the province, there have been slight increases in hospitalization numbers over the last two days.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there are now 697 people in hospital with COVID-19, 155 of which are in the ICU.

Alberta Health also reporting 14 more people have died from the virus.

This now brings the province’s total death tally from COVID-19 to 3,133.

On the vaccination front, more than 6.58 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta to date.

Of those 12 and older in the province, 87.2 per cent have received at least one dose, while 80.6 per cent are fully immunized.
