Booster shots will soon be available to Albertans who are 18 and older.

The province made the announcement at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, CityNews has confirmed.

Currently, boosters are only being rolled out to select groups, including seniors, the immunocompromised, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people, and health-care workers.

Boosters are also being given to AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson recipients, as well as those who need it for travel.

Word of the expanded booster program comes after Canada recorded several cases of the new Omicron variant.

On Tuesday, the province confirmed one case in Alberta.
