The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce has launched a new committee hoping to recruit workers for the oil and gas industry.

A survey from The Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism (FMWBEDT) said local job growth will continue until 2025.

Researchers included post-pandemic recovery into their findings, but acknowledged political, economic and social factors during the next few years are unpredictable.

Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dianna de Sousa says ’employers will be supported with information sessions and workshops on adapting to the new economy.’

A release states that in the coming months, the committee will define shared goals and prioritize labour market objectives and strategies.

The committee’s scope of responsibilities will include:

– Determining ways to address ongoing regional labour market challenges;
– Supporting employers to navigate the current labour market with information, tools, workshops and thought leadership;
– Be a central voice for workforce issues in the region;
– And raise awareness for the region as a place to live and work.

Stakeholders will meet monthly to review strategic priorities and action items.
