FORT MCMURRAY – The Northern Lights Health Foundation has received a sizeable donation.

UNITE HERE Local 47 Camp Culinary and Hospitality Union recently donated $100,000 to the organization.

The cash is unrestricted so the Foundation can use it as it sees fit, with Executive Director Cindy Amerongen stating in a press release that it’s a terrific way to start the 2022 fundraising year.

“We want to thank Local 47 members for their generous donation as we have important projects underway at the hospital that require facility and technology renewal,” she said.

“Together with UNITE HERE Local 47 we will quickly advance those projects.”

UNITE HERE Local 47 represents thousands of camp, culinary, and hospitality workers at the Civeo, Horizon North, and Compass ESS camps.

According to President/Administrator Ian Robb, the union’s community fund was started several years ago as a way for members to support local non-profits.

“Our work in the hospitality industry is vital to the success of the region as we provide nutritious meals and a comfortable clean place to live for out of town and shift workers,” said Robb.

“And of course we recognize that our members may have an impact on healthcare services. We know that great changes and impacts in healthcare require significant community and corporate investment and our members and our contractors are very pleased to provide this donation.”

UNITE HERE Local 47 was established in 1944 to ensure out-of-town staff have great living conditions while working in the region.
