Edmonton man charged with possession of child pornography

The province’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit has charged an Edmonton man after uncovering hundreds of thousands of images of child porn on computers and other electronic devices.

David McDowell, 69, was arrested in mid-January following a cyber tip.

“The sheer volume, and the content of child sexual exploitation materials seized is quite disturbing, even to our most experienced investigators,” said Insp. John Respet with the ICE unit.

Police say McDowell is a former volunteer youth coordinator with an Edmonton-based medieval recreation and culture group. At this time, ALERT is working to find potential victims and provide them with support.

Police are concerned there may be child victims in Calgary, Edmonton and the Vancouver areas.
