A re-scheduled 2022 World Junior Hockey Championships will be played in Alberta this summer.
The tournament was cancelled on Dec. 29, 2021 due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and the Omicron variant in Edmonton and Red Deer.
On Thursday, the IIHF announced it will be replayed from start to finish “in the middle of August.”
“It will be a new competition, which means we forget the results (in December),” IIHF President Luc Tardif said.

Tardiff confirmed it will be the same age category as in the original tournament, namely players born in 2002 or younger.
Countries are also able to re-select their participating teams.
