United States Senator Joe Manchin is visiting Alberta’s oilsands this week to learn about the province’s energy sector and to discuss North American energy security.
The visit comes as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to put pressure on global trade.

Manchin is meeting with Premier Jason Kenney, U.S. Consul General in Calgary Holly Waeger Monster, and Energy Minister Sonya Savage. The senator is touring energy facilities and holding meetings with energy stakeholders in Calgary.

Manchin is a representative of West Virginia and also the chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, he has previously called on US President Joe Biden to reverse his decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline’s permit.
Kenney has called for Keystone XL’s revival as well, however, the company behind the pipeline, TC Energy, has said it will not be coming back.
