Alberta is looking for singers to perform the national anthem at the Legislative Assembly.

When the Legislature is in session, its 87 members are led in the singing of O Canada every Monday at 1:30 p.m.

“The Legislature is the people’s house; we want to give Albertans an opportunity to share their voices,” said Speaker of the House Nathan Cooper.

“I encourage Albertans to let us know if they are interested in singing O Canada to help MLAs begin their important work every week.”

In a release, the Legislature says the song is traditionally led by an anthem singer, but it hopes to include more community members in the role.

“Are you a singing sensation? Whether you sing in a school choir, a band, or are simply a great singer, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta is inviting you to put your name forward to sing our national anthem in the Assembly,” the release reads.

The Legislature is scheduling singers starting May 2022. Anyone who wants to apply to sing can email the Speaker’s Office at officeofthespeaker@assembly.ab.ca.
