Alberta's new area code: 368

Alberta's new 368 area code is being introduced April 23, 2022.

Alberta already has 403, 587, 780, and 825. Now, the province is getting a fifth area code: 368.

The Telecommunications Alliance says it’s being introduced because of increased demand for phone numbers in the province.

“The new area code will be introduced gradually starting on April 23,” said Kelly T. Walsh, program manager of the Canadian Numbering Administrator. “After this date, consumers and businesses requesting a new phone number may receive one with the new area code.”

The Telecommunications Alliance also says the new 368 area code will make sure people and businesses in Alberta will have “enough numbers to meet demand well into the future.”

Some things to note about this new area code:

  • Your existing number will not change
  • You will keep the same area code you have
  • Local calling areas will remain the same
  • All local calls will still require 10 digits (area code + local number)

The Telecommunications Alliance adds special numbers such as 211, 311, 411, 611, and 911 will be unaffected, and “business customers using communications systems that restrict long-distance calling will need to add 368 as a local area code.”
