The RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Brooks RCMP are looking into the deaths of three people, including a baby girl, after they were found dead near Brooks, Alta. on Saturday.

Brooks RCMP says officers were called to a home in Newell County, Alta. around 8 p.m. for reports of a woman and child found dead. The baby’s father found the bodies of the 29-year-old woman and their 8-month-old daughter.

The Major Crimes Unit was then called in to help search the area, and officers found the body of a man nearby.

The RCMP currently believes the dead man was the woman’s brother and it appears he died of self-inflicted injuries. There is no danger to the public.

“This is a tragic loss of life and very difficult circumstances for the family and community of the victims,” said S/Sgt. Erick Youngstrom with the Major Crimes Unit. “We will be continuing to investigate and seeking to determine what took place. The family has asked for privacy at this time.”

Police say autopsies are scheduled for May 10, and no other information will be provided.
