The community will come together to honour the region’s leaders, philanthropists, and organizations that make a positive impact in the community.

FuseSocial Special Projects Manager Shannon Rex said the top three nominees in each category will be announced the week leading up to the ceremony on June 2, 2022.

“This year, we received more than 50 amazing award nominations detailing the stories and actions of a diverse group of individuals and organizations that supported and uplifted our community in extraordinary ways. We are extremely grateful to our selection committee for the difficult job they have of determining the winners in each category.”

Suncor is this year’s title sponsor.

Meanwhile, CEDA, Wood Buffalo Food Bank, and the NorthStar Ford Wood Buffalo Volunteer Centre serve as sponsors for the eight award categories of Excellence.

New for this year are two new categories.

“Collaboration of the Year and Excellence in Social Innovation celebrate exceptional agility, creativity, sustainability and innovative approaches to meeting community needs.”

The six original categories are Board Leadership, Executive Leadership, Community Impact, Philanthropy, Newcomer Engagement in memory of Lyle Leboldus, and Volunteering in honour of Bill Bloomfield.

Michael Sieger, the Vice-President of Commercial and Passenger Experience, and Jessica Lipton, Manager of Marketing and Communications of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The ceremony also features performances from local artists, including live music from Dan Tulk.

Updates on nominees and other announcements will be posted on FuseSocial’s social media channels.

First held in 2011, the Heart of Wood Buffalo Excellence Awards will be held at Shell Place on June 2 at 6:00 p.m., with tickets available for purchase online.
