Wood Buffalo RCMP have confirmed searchers found the body of a man who disappeared during a boating trip over the May long weekend.

In a release, police say they located the 46-year-old Fort McMurray man’s body after expanding the search to the Athabasca River.

On May 21, 2022, Search and Rescue teams were called to a river north of Fort MacKay, after he and another man paddling in a 16-foot canoe were declared missing.

Officials found the overturned canoe and the body of an 80-year-old man a few hours later.
