2022 Northland Games kicks off June 3rd

Student-athletes from across the Northland School Division (NSD) will gather for the 2022 Northland Games on Friday, June 3.

Originally scheduled for May 27th, the Northland Games Committee postponed the one-day event due to inclement weather.

Gift Lake School near Lesser Slave Lake will host the annual athletic showcase.

In a release, NSD Media Relations Manager Curtis Walty said the forecast looks great and they can’t wait to host the Northland Games once again.

“This will be the first Northland Games since 2018. From 2019 to 2021, the games were cancelled due to wildfires and COVID-19 restrictions.”

Hundreds of NSD student-athletes aged 5-18 will participate in traditional games and track and field events.

The showcase will also feature cultural demonstrations and entertainment throughout the day.

• 100-Meter Race
• 200-Meter Race

• Kneel Jump
• Long Jump
• Sash Relay
• Shot Put

The Northland Games will start with an opening ceremony on June 3 at 9:00 a.m.

NSD has five schools in Wood Buffalo: Anzac’s Bill Woodward School, Athabasca Delta, Conklin Community School, Father R. Perin in Janvier, and Fort McKay School.
