The Mikisew Group of Companies has announced the 100 per cent acquisition of Edmonton-based confined space service leader, SmogBuster.

Based in Wood Buffalo, Mikisew Group is the business arm of the Mikisew Cree First Nation.

It’s the group’s second purchase in the confined space industry.

Formed in 1991, SmogBuster provides confined space ventilation, particle filtration and climate control services as well as field services and shutdown planning, across Canada and around the world.

Mikisew Group CEO Dan Gallagher called SmogBuster a highly reputable operator.

“SmogBuster is an established and highly reputable operator within the confined space service industry, and we’re delighted to have them join the Mikisew Group family,” Said Mikisew Group CEO Dan Gallagher. “It is an excellent fit with the traditional confined space services that Mikisew Group has provided to the oil and gas sector for more than 25 years.”

The acquisition follows Mikisew Group’s successful investment in Impact Safety Solutions, which specializes in remote confined space monitoring.

“Together, these two businesses will have a broader reach, unlock innovation, and realize significant growth synergies. Both companies will provide improved services to our customers as we harness their combined knowledge, strengths and abilities.”

Gallagher said Mikisew Group’s private equity portfolio will continue to grow as they execute their strategic plan.

SmogBuster’s Vice-President of Shared Services and Operations, Glenn Suggitt also shared his thoughts on the business purchase.

“We’re delighted to see SmogBuster join Mikisew Group and we are excited to have the opportunity to build strong working relationships with service providers like Impact Safety Solutions. Mikisew’s directive of strategic, sustainable growth for long-term prosperity is a perfect match for our own mission and vision, and we are excited for this next phase of growth under their direction.”

About 50 per cent of the Edmonton-based company’s revenue comes from the oil and gas sector.

Since 1991, Mikisew Group has been a leading oil sands partner specializing in site services, maintenance, logistics and construction.
