RCMP in Fort Chipewyan have made an arrest following a string of sexual assault incidents in the northern hamlet.
The investigation began in April 2022, when a victim, who previously travelled to Fort Chipewyan for work, reported several incidents to police.
Many detachments across northern Alberta assisted in the case, which centered around a man, who had been hired to drive professionals visiting or working in the area.
On May 28, officers with Fort Chipewyan RCMP arrested a 54-year-old man from Fort Chipewyan without incident.
Police charged him with sexual assault, sexual assault with strangling, assault, forcible confinement, and criminal harassment.
The suspect is due in court on July 7, 2022.
