Wood Buffalo RCMP have laid charges in connection with an armed robbery in downtown Fort McMurray.

On June 22, 2022, RCMP responded to a complaint of a robbery in progress at a downtown business.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee about the incident, who said a man entered the business and attempted to walk out of the store with merchandise without paying first.

Before leaving, the suspect lifted his shirt to reveal he had a weapon, and then left the store.

The employee was uninjured.

Officers, with assistance from Police Dog Services, located the suspect a short distance away and took him into custody without incident.

RCMP charged the 31-year-old man from Fort McMurray with robbery with an offensive weapon.

He remains in custody and will appear in court on June 27, 2022.
