Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) has announced students at St Anne School have won another major performing arts competition.

St. Anne’s Division 2 Choir are Canada West Performing Arts Festival Choral Champions in the grades six and under category!

The school’s Choir Director Cathy Larson called it an honour, particularly with a shortened choir season.

“Normally, we would start a couple of weeks into the school year. This year we didn’t get to start until January due to the pandemic. At the start we could only have one grade, then slowly another. We couldn’t have it too big.”

Typically featuring 60 students, Larson said this year’s choir could only feature about 40.

However, she said Canada West recognized the group for their preparation, attention to dynamics, vocal control, and precision.

“The students accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. It is a lot of listening, practice, and work they put into this accomplishment.”

Larson called the student’s dedication outstanding.
