Crews startup summer cleanup of Snye River

Work begins on the Snye River to remove the year's buildup of silt and sediment, with the operation scheduled to be complete my mid-September.

Work begins on the Snye River to remove the year’s buildup of silt and sediment to allow for the safe passage of boats and other watercraft.

In a release, the Municipality said crews will begin “dredging” the channel, and that’s means closing the nearby parking lot at Snye Point.

“The physical dredging and removal of silt deposits from the mouth of the Snye is expected to take up to two weeks. In addition, the mud and silt being placed on Snye Point must be de-watered before being removed from site. Once de-watered, the silt and mud will be hauled away.”

Crews intend to use Snye Point as a laydown for sediment, which will be given time to dry, before taking it away.

The RMWB added the operation should be complete by mid-September.

Vehicle access to the parking lot at Snye Point will be off limits during that time.

The Municipality is asking residents to respect temporary closures and follow all posted signage.

Snye Point Park first opened in 2015.
