Alberta’s Serious Incident Response Team is reviewing an arrest in Fort McMurray last month that involved a taser.

On July 1, 2022, Wood Buffalo RCMP located a man, who they believed to be a missing person, and later arrested him.

A short time later, the man escaped police and ran away.

ASIRT said that was when an officer “deployed a conducted energy weapon”.

The man fell to the ground, complaining of pain in his arm and shoulder, but emergency crews found no critical injuries.

Weeks later, on July 20, the man was taken to hospital, where it was discovered he had a broken collarbone.
