On Aug. 18, Jes Croucher from Pawâmiw Creative will lead a discussion on The Legacy of Residential Schools in Borealis Park. It's part of a seven-week long series of in-person and online sessions from the Municipality's Truth and Reconciliation Challenge, which concludes on Sept. 30, 2022. The Municipality is inviting people to take the Truth and Reconciliation Challenge.

Residents may participate in the seven-week journey by exploring Indigenous culture and language in the region, as well as the area’s history, including the legacy of residential schools.

The challenge wraps up on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, 2022.

Along with online activities, lessons, and teachings, the RMWB will host in-person events and workshops for the first time.

“Every week, participants will engage, explore, and learn based on weekly themes. Each theme is intended to guide and enrich participants on their personal journeys of reconciliation.”

The first week’s theme is “Truth”, which seeks to uncover the region’s history.

Indigenous and Rural Relations Director Dennis Fraser said the lack of accurate historical knowledge is a barrier to genuine reconciliation.

“This is a time to learn and listen and to consider how we can each contribute to reconciliation. The challenge provides meaningful ways to enhance and guide those personal journeys.”

On Aug. 18, Jes Croucher of Pawâmiw Creative will host a discussion on The Legacy of Residential Schools at the Bob Lamb Bandstand.

More Information on weekly themes will be posted on the Municipality’s website, and on their social media channels.

Visitors may sign the Personal Commitment of Reconcilation and receive a certificate from the RMWB in honour of finishing the challenge.

Participants will also be invited to a special event for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
