The Municipality has announced the appointment of Paul Thorkelsson to the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

According to the RMWB, Thorkelsson is an accomplished senior leader with expertise in the public sector, governance, and fiscal responsibility.

Mayor Sandy Bowman said he understands the significance of building strong relationships with Indigenous communities and community partners.

With an added background in labour relations, Thorkelsson worked with unions such as CUPE and IAFF, and championed diversity and equity organizations.

“It is also critical that the CAO understands the value and positive role of the people at the Municipality in delivering the programs, projects, and services the region needs. I also want to thank my Council colleagues for working collaboratively during what was an open and comprehensive process in our search and selection of a new CAO for the Municipality as well as all of the excellent candidates that applied and engaged with Council during this process.”

Thorkelsson will replace Jamie Doyle, who resigned on April 27, 2022.

Linda Ollivier will continue in her role as interim CAO.

Bowman said Ollivier plans to retire at the end of her term.

“Linda’s sound fiscal management and guidance over the years has left an important mark on the organization. On behalf of my Council colleagues, I want to thank Linda for her significant contributions, and wish her the best in her retirement.”

Ollivier served over 10 years with the Municipality in a variety of roles.

Thorkelsson begins on Sept. 26, 2022.
