Police officer stabbed at Edmonton Airport

Alberta RCMP say the man who ran through airport security at the Edmonton International Airport on Saturday has been charged.

“RCMP would like to correct one piece of information from the previous release. The suspect ran through security unarmed and went to a nearby restaurant in the airport where he armed himself with a piece of cutlery.”

Police say not long later, the man got in an altercation with an RCMP officer ensued at which point the officer was injured.

The suspect was taken into custody and the officer was taken to hospital in stable condition and has since been released.

The suspect, a 37-year-old man from Fort McMurray has since been charged with aggravated assault, assaulting an officer, assault, possession of a weapon, mischief, and resisting arrest.

He will be in court on Sep. 28.
