Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta has received $20,000 in donations through its annual golf tournament.
Miskanaw Golf Club hosted the 28th Annual Golf Tournament Fore Girls Inc. presented by Imperial on Sept. 4, 2022.
Guests were treated to food, games, a silent auction, prizes, and golf all to support girls between the ages of 6-18 in the region.
Sundas Shamshad is the Interim Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta.

She said this year’s theme for the golf tourney was Frosh.
“With Covid restrictions lifted people have forgotten to network, we wanted to give them an opportunity to network but with a fun twist so the Frosh theme seemed the most appropriate. Together with Imperial, we came together to help girls in our community discover their potential and encouraged them to strive for new heights, taking positive risks and having fun along the way.”
She said, since January 2022, the organization served 1634 girls.
“We continue to strive to provide barrier-free programs ensuring that girls are encouraged to be an agent of change and inspiration.”
Proceeds will be reinvested into cost-free, girl-specific programming.

Socioeconomic Advisor Rita Karrel said Imperial is proud to sponsor Girls Inc.
“[Girls Inc.] are providing integral programming to support women and girls with the knowledge and skills needed to break free from gender stereotypes, create social changes and be proud of who they are.”

Girls may also register online for the upcoming Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta Talent Show on Nov. 18, 2022.
A recording of the talent show will be shown during the Women of Inspiration Event in March 2023.
