The Wood Buffalo Community Foundation (WBCF) has awarded this year’s Community Grants to six local social profits.

In a statement, WBCF said the grants amount to $218,059.79 in total funding.

The following is a list of social profits awarded and the program or service they provide:

  • Fort McMurray Public School Division – Regulation in Children & Youth
  • Wood Buffalo Wellness Society – Tawâw Cultural Program Supplies
  • Fort McMurray Golden Years Society – Hot Meals Program
  • The Hub Family Resource Centre – Rural Community Outreach / HUB on Wheels
  • KidSport Wood Buffalo – Athlete Funding Program
  • Autism Society of RMWB – Social Respite Program

WBCF looks for programs or services that encourage social activities and connections to the community, and reduce dependence on social services.

“Our community needs these supports and we are grateful to our donors for providing this funding,” Said Gaylene Weidlich, WBCF Executive Director. “We are thrilled to fund programs that encourage social interactions and training for mental health initiatives. Many people’s lives will benefit.”

The foundation is also pushing toward its year-end fundraising goal of $600,000.

According to the WBCF, this is the last year of the matching grant from Suncor Energy Foundation, which will match up to $200,000 in donations.

Interested donors can provide funds through monthly or one-time donations to the Community Fund or a fund of their choice.

In 2022, WBCF provided more than $280,000 in grants.
