An investigation into vehicular thefts on Chipewyan Prairie Dene First Nation by RCMP has led to a pair of arrests.

On Sept. 30, 2022, around 10:00 a.m., RCMP located two people driving in the community in a stolen Dodge Ram Truck.

When the truck fled, officers successfully deployed a tire-deflation device, and the truck was last seen entering the nearby MEG Energy worksite.

According to witnesses, the two occupants exited the vehicle and stole a white Ford F250 from the site.

From there, RCMP pursued the two suspects in the F250 off Highway 881 north of Conklin, where officers disabled the second stolen vehicle.

Assisted by Police Dog Services, police took a 29-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman into custody.

Wood Buffalo RCMP added the man was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
