The 30th Syncrude Food Drive and Corporate Challenge in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB) has been declared a success.

The annual food drive made its in-person return for the first time since in three years.

On Nov. 24, 2022, the Corporate Challenge radiothon kicked off with title sponsor, Syncrude, announcing a pledge of $95,000.

Syncrude then encouraged several individuals, businesses, and organizations donated a total of $389,217, surpassing the WBFB’s goal of $300,000.

Country 93.3 and 97.9 ROCK broadcast the results of the Corporate Challenge over the two-day event.

What followed was the Syncrude Food Drive held from Nov. 25-27.

“The warmer weather was a blessing for the volunteers in front of the grocery stores this year,” Said Dan Edwards, Executive Director of the WBFB. “We want to recognize the giving nature of our community who pulled through regardless of current inflation.”

Wilson donated trucks to ship donations from all participating grocery stores, and bags with lists of needs for customers were provided by Sentential Storage and SNF.

Starbucks also provided beverages for volunteers braving the elements.

Over the weekend, the Food Drive raised an additional $44,574.22 in monetary donations, and 45,685 pounds of food.

The original goal for food donations was 80,000 pounds.

Despite the tough times, Edwards said the WBFB is appreciative of volunteers and the community for their support.

“With how much the community has struggled over the past few years, we are just so grateful that we can still all come together to fight against food insecurity in our region. Regardless, we end the weekend with another successful food drive.”

The WBFB thanks everyone for their support and contributions to this year’s Syncrude Food Drive and Corporate Challenge.
