60-year-old charged in drug trafficking sting

Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested a man following a two-month long investigation into suspected drug trafficking.

According to RCMP, on Feb. 2, 2023, officers executed a search warrant at 270 Tundra Drive in Thickwood.

Police began investigating the area in December of 2022.

RCMP seized 702 suspected opioid pills, a firearm and $1150 cash.

While executing the warrant, officers found a male subject connected to the Thickwood home in a vehicle away from the residence, and arrested him without incident.

A 60-year man from Fort McMurray has been charged with the following:

  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Contravene regulation of the Firearms Act
  • Drive Uninsured motor vehicle
  • Drive While Unauthorized
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
  • Proceeds of Crime
  • Transport liquor in open container
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

 

The suspect will appear in court on Feb. 28, 2023.
