Details shared on accident at Cultural Centre

McMurray Métis has provided more details into the workplace accident at the McMurray Métis Cultural Centre Project.

On March 25, 2023, McMurray Métis local 1935 announced construction would be halted indefinitely due to financial issues

In a statement, Shawn Myers, President and CEO of the Infinity Métis Corporation, confirmed the accident took place on March 8, 2023.

Infinity Métis is the business arm of the McMurray Métis.

Myers said Casman Building Solutions was acting as the “Prime Contractor.”

“A subcontractor worker was removing materials from the rooftop, when a worker fell through an opening for a future skylight to the floor below. The worker sustained some injuries however has since returned to regular duties. Alberta OHS is investigating the incident. The subcontractor involved along with Casman are supporting OHS’s investigation.”

Myers said no further details would be provided as the investigation is ongoing.

The site has since been winterized.

McMurray Métis President Peter Hansen had said Council will determine a path forward for the Cultural Centre.
