Worlds awaits for FMCSD robotics students
Father Mercredi High School students are in Dallas, TX, for the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championships.
They’re participating in the annual robotics tournaments alongside 800 teams from around the world.
Joining them is Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) teacher and head robotics coach, Tom MacIsaac.

“To say we are proud of these teams is an understatement. They keep expanding on their own success. They keep building and wanting for more. They inspire us continually.”
The students are members of two robotics teams: 5760B, which is also known as Team UnBEARable, and 5760C, the Cobra Chickenz.
Both teams are ranked third and fourth, respectively, in the Alberta Skills standings.
According to Robotevents.com, they are also ranked 324th and 531st in the world.
Fellow FMCSD coach Holly Kalma said both teams are all in.

“They spent their lunch breaks, evenings, weekends, and school breaks working, building and competing. And they do it the right way- they represent themselves, our school, our division, and our community so well. Now they are representing our Province and even our country.”
Kalma added they couldn’t be more proud to be part of the teams.
UnBEARable qualified for the championships as part of the winning alliance at the Mecha Mayhem Signature Event in Calgary, Alta., in February, and at Provincials in March.

The Cobra Chickenz also qualified for worlds at Provincials as part of a finalist alliance.
