Arrest made after series of downtown break-ins
A man has been arrested by Wood Buffalo RCMP following a recent string of break-ins in businesses across downtown Fort McMurray.
At 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, 2023, police responded to the 8400 block of Franklin Ave. on a report of a break and enter.
Officers found a window to the business had been smashed, but no one entered.

A little later at 7:23 a.m., RCMP received another call about a break-in at the 8200 block of Fraser Ave.
Investigators said surveillance footage from Franklin Ave. showed a lone male suspect, who was also seen leaving the Fraser Ave. business on a bicycle while in possession of stolen property.
Wood Buffalo RCMP said officers found the man a short distance away and arrested him without incident.
“The male was found to be at large on an Undertaking and on Probation. Additional investigation was conducted and revealed that the same male suspect is believed to be responsible for additional break and enters to businesses in the Downtown area between Aug. 3-6, 2023.”
A 23-year-old man from Fort McMurray, has been charged with the following:

- Two counts of Break, Enter and commit theft
- Disguise with intent
- Possession of break and enter tools
- Theft under $5,000
- Two counts of Breach of Probation
- Two counts of Failure to comply with condition of Undertaking
- Two counts of Mischief
The accused is due in court on Aug. 9, 2023.
