39-year-old man faces second-degree murder charge: RCMP

A local man has been charged in connection to a death in Fort McMurray in late September.

In a release, Wood Buffalo RCMP said on Sept. 21, at 7:45 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the neighbourhood of Timberlea on reports of a suspicious death.

It was there a man was found in his basement apartment with suspicious injuries.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit was called and took over the investigation.

On Sept. 25, an autopsy determined the death of 43-year-old Norm Lineham to be a homicide.

Wood Buffalo RCMP arrested 39-year-old Matthew Thomas Cooper of Fort McMurray on Sept. 29, and charged with second-degree murder.
