Landmark Cinemas’ Fort McMurray location will be one of the first six in Canada to open as a part of phase two of the economic relaunch.

Bill Walker, CEO of Landmark Cinemas, said that the theatre will open with reduced movie showings on June 26.

Walker said that they’ll be bringing in classics and movies that were on the screen before they were forced to shutdown due to COVID-19.

“We’re going to run less shows per day, but if demand is there then we’ll expand and certainly put on as many shows as there’s demand for.”

As a part of the re-opening plan, movie-goers will have even more space for themselves.

Walker explained that every second love seat will be available, so there will be nobody on either side of you or directly in front of, or behind you.

Snacks and drinks will still be available as usual, with every other till open and plexiglass screens in place.

Employees will wear masks and follow increased sanitization practices.

The organization is also working on installing anti-microbial screens and shields for its Coca-Cola Freestyle machines.

While, the theatre will be screening classics, Walker said that there will be two new releases in July.

Walker said until then, it’s about increasing consumer confidence and getting people used to going to the movies again.

“When those new releases come, we’re going to be there ready to support those and hopefully get back to something that feels a bit more normal for the business.”
