CALGARY (660 NEWS) — It appears Alberta may have already reached the 70 per cent vaccination threshold to move into Stage 3 of reopening.
Numbers from Wednesday, which were announced in the Thursday update, put Alberta at 69.9 per cent of eligible people vaccinated.
#Alberta likely reopening by Canada Day. Premier is speaking as it seems AB hit 70% first doses yesterday. We were at 69.9% Wed., meaning we needed 0.1% first doses Thurs. Even accounting for vaxx lottery & snowbirds, daily AB shots have consistently been over 0.1%/day. #yyc #yeg pic.twitter.com/8PLVzhBUyL

If vaccination numbers over the last two days have been maintained, it would mean Alberta has already surpassed the 70 per cent mark.
Premier Jason Kenney is expected to make the official announcement at 1 p.m.
Under the current plan, the province would open on July 2, however, it’s possible the province may decide to lift restrictions a day earlier, in time for Canada day.

It will take two weeks after 70 per cent of Albertans have gotten their first dose of the vaccine to be able to fully reopen the province.
All restrictions will be removed in Stage 3 of the relaunch, except some precautionary measures in long-term care homes and mandatory isolation for people who test positive for COVID-19.
The Alberta government’s website shows a bit of a drop-off when it comes to how many Albertans have gone in to get shots this week.
According to plans in place, the province is only hundreds of first-dose vaccinations away from being able to fully reopen.
Roughly 25 per cent of Albertans have also received their second dose.
