Macdonald Island Park has taken the first step towards a new recreation centre north of the Athabasca River bridge.

It’s scheduled community engagement sessions to find out what people want at the new development.

It’s set to be built on Abrams Land, between Thickwood and Timberlea, across from Dickinsfield.

Chief Operating Officer Tim Reid calls the sessions a ‘first step’, noting that the community will decide what’s offered at the facility, and even what it’s named.

It’s also brought on the same consulting company that handled engagement sessions for the Shell Place expansion to handle these.

The schedule is below:
• Wednesday, February 20, Noon-2:00 pm (Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Athabasca Room)
• Wednesday, February 20, 5:00-7:00 pm (Holy Trinity High School, Art Studio)
• Monday, February 25, 3:00-5:00 pm (Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Athabasca Room)
