Nugent-Hopkins, Prendergast prepare for Red/White Game

The big team Canada Red & White game is just days away, with 47 of Canada’s best junior hockey players training in Edmonton.

They’ll arrive in Fort McMurray on Sunday morning ahead of the game at 6pm at the Casman Centre.

Hockey Canada head scout Kevin Prendergast says it’s quite the crop of talent.

“I’ve been very impressed with them,” Prendergast said. “It’s a great group, 47 is a big number but we’ve got a great mix of size, mobility, and hockey sense and strength, so it’s just a point of meshing it all together now.

Many eyes will be on Edmonton Oilers first-round pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on Team White, who has started to become a household name in northern Alberta.

“It’s really exciting just hearing that,” says Nugent-Hopkins. “It’s really cool being welcomed as well as I have to the organization, and to all of northern Alberta.”

The 2011-2012 Fort McMurray Oil Barons roster will also be revealed on Sunday.

The team will be serving at the Community Pancake Breakfast at Macdonald Island Park at 10am, as fans get their first glimpse at the team that will travel to Russia later this month.

The Red and White game will be broadcast live on Country 93.3 starting at 5:45.
