Minister Carlier demonstrates new wildfire app ready for download.

EDMONTON – The Alberta government has released a mobile app to help campers and other outdoor enthusiasts stay on top of fire bans and restrictions.

Forestry Minister Oneil Carlier says it’s important that Albertans be aware of fire conditions if they intend to enjoy the province’s parks and natural areas.

He says it will also help prevent human-caused wildfires.

The app is available on Android and Apple devices.

The fire hazard in many regions of the province — especially in northern Alberta — is high to extreme due to dry conditions.

There have been almost 274 wildfires in the province’s forest protection areas since March 1.

The province says 99 per cent of those were human-caused and preventable.
