The Fort McMurray SPCA celebrated it’s 40th anniversary by raising over $18,000.

Anniversary celebrations were kicked off on June 3 with the 2nd Annual Winky Day and 7th Annual Walk for Animals.

Special presentations were made from the FMSPCA board, Councilor Keith McGrath, MLA Tany Yao and the RCMP, who noted that over 80 animal related calls have been received already this year.

Over 70 riders participated in the Winky Day/Greb Glides memorial ride to Anzac in honour of their Cause for Paws, which has raised over $78,000 for the FMSPCA over the past few years.

“It was wonderful to see so many community members come out with their canine family members and enjoy all of the fun and activities sponsored by Maxx Dental and M&M Heating and Plumbing,” said Arianna Johnson. “We so appreciate our volunteers, some of whom were there to prepare for the day at 6am including a volunteer team from RBC, the Fort McMurray Kinsmen who ran our BBQ with all the goodies provided by Superstore – we would not be able to do these community events without them!”

Winky Day raised $10,000 to support animals in the care of the FMSPCA, while $8000 was raised from the walk for animals, which will be used for the Isabelle Paws Fund to provide emergency medical care to animals.
