The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers is predicting a huge jump in oilsands production.
The group says production will more than triple by 2030; from 1.6 million barrels per day to 5 million.
The oil sands’ share of national oil production will jump from 53 percent to 81 percent in that span.
CAPP V-P Greg Stringham says they’re basing the numbers on a survey of their members.
“And what it really does show is that Canada is still continuing to grow into the position of being a world leader with the production of oil and gas,” he said. “This will take us into the top 3 or 4 in the world.”
Right now Canada ranks sixth.
