Fort McMurray to host the 2018 FireSmart Community Series

PHOTO. Supplied. FireSmart is a national program adopted in communities across Canada aimed at reducing the risk of wildfire in interface zones where the urban setting meets environments prone to wildfire.

Deputy Minister Andre Corbould, Mayor Don Scott and Fire Chief Jody Butz will welcome 350 delegates from across North America to Fort McMurray for the 2018 FireSmart Community Series on Oct. 2, 2018.

This is the first time the conference has been held in the region, which also has the largest number of registered participants including community leaders, fire departments, mitigation experts, members of industry and government staff.

The conference will take place over three days at Shell Place and will include include round table discussions and keynote speeches from experts from across the country and the continent.  There will also be a bus tour of past and present FireSmart project areas within Fort McMurray.
