Liberal MP accuses gov't of making oil sands pollution easier

Suncor, oilsands project

Liberal MPs says the government is trying to make it easier for oil sands companies to pollute the water.

Postmedia quotes Montreal MP Francis Scarpaleggia as saying new changes to the Fisheries Act will make it easier for the government to authorize water pollution.

He also says some companies already use legislation to allow them to dump tailings into lakes and other bodies of water with fish.

Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers VP Greg Stringham disagrees; he says the new legislation doesn’t make any changes to the environmental standards for oil sands companies.
