A Thursday morning fire which broke out at Suncor Energy’s U2 upgrader has been contained and extinguished.

There were no injuries reported and it is unknown if production had been affected.

The U2 upgrader, which converts bitumen into refinery-ready synthetic crude, has a capacity of 240,000 barrels per day.
