24-year-old injured in Boomtown Casino shooting

A 24-year-old man is being treated in hospital for a serious injury following a shooting outside the Boomtown Casino at 12:40 a.m. April 1.

The young man received medical treatment from EMS and was taken to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are calling it a “serious incident involving a firearm” and said one person was seen by witnesses running away from the scene on Hardin Street toward Franklin Avenue.

Police have secured the scene, enclosing several vehicles, the loading dock and the front door with police tape.

Officers have been going door-to-door at businesses along Franklin, including this newsroom, to see if their security cameras caught any detail of the events overnight.

Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Section and Serious Crime Unit are leading the investigation, which is still in the early stages.

Police said there is no threat to public safety and it is not a random incident. They said they will release more information when it is available.
