Laila Goodridge announced Thursday that she is running for the United Conservative Party nomination in the upcoming by-election in the Fort McMurray-Conklin riding.

Goodridge, who is the second person to announce running after Councillor Phil Meagher, says there’s never been a better time for Fort McMurray to have a strong voice in the legislature.

“From carbon tax to attacks on our oilsands, to pipeline access and ensuring our region has access to good health and education services, I am ready to be that voice. I have strong roots in the Fort McMurray community and have a long, principled history as a conservative. I’m ready to serve.”

She has a history of conservatism and work in public service as an advisor to members of Parliament, Federal Ministers and most recently has served Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in Edmonton.

She was also the Disaster Recovery Specialist for MLAs Brian Jean and Tany Yao in Fort McMurray after the wildfire.

The announcement comes less than two weeks after Brian Jean announced he was stepping away from politics.
