Drunk driver causes head-on crash on Thickwood

UPDATE – 9AM: RCMP have confirmed that a 29-year old man was driving the truck the wrong way on Thickwood, and hit the other pickup head-on, driven by a 39-year old man.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police haven’t laid charges yet, but they say alcohol is believed to be a factor.

They’ll be shutting down the Thickwood/Real Martin intersection from approximately 10:45 to noon today for the investigation.

Original Story:

A drunk driver going up the wrong side of Thickwood Boulevard caused a head on crash this morning just before 5:30.

Thickwood was closed just past Dickinsfield going east for several hours during the morning rush while the accident was cleared.

Witnesses say they saw the driver in a pickup truck on the wrong side of the road but he didn’t respond to other drivers honking their horns to warn him.

Sources say he then hit another pickup head-on at the intersection of Real Martin Drive.

The man in the other truck had to be cut out of the vehicle.
